2 years

Today is our 2 year anniversary in our home. Time is such a funny thing. While it's been 2 years there are times it feels like we have always lived here. Then the kids and I will drive by our old house and living there feels like another lifetime. Honestly it kind of was. In the old house it was mostly just the 4 of us. Years of walking the block with the boys, playing in the yard and hanging out upstairs. In this home it's the 5 of us. Our family is complete in hopefully our forever home. Man does that feel good.

So much has changed in this house since 2 years ago when we signed the papers. The first year was mostly getting unpacked and settled. Getting into new routines, finding out new things about our neighborhood, meeting our neighbors, everything was new. The second year was getting the house to exactly how we wanted it. I have decorated and redecorated rooms too many times to count πŸ˜‰ We have worked countless hours in the yard and flower beds and organized every square inch of the house to make it exactly what we want. Here we are celebrating our 2 year anniversary and stepping into our 3rd year in this home and things finally feel perfect. Our home is exactly how we want it to be. I have no idea what this coming year will hold for us in this house but I imagine it to be full of new memories. I think to the future and can almost imagine hearing the loud thumps from giant teenage boy feet upstairs. Or the loud chitter chatter from middle school girls coming out of Milly's bedroom. Living here and growing here is going to be one of my greatest joys in life...I just know it 😊

Thank you Escondido for keeping my family and our memories safe.

magnolia silos

Last Friday was my little sister's birthday. So to celebrate we loaded up the car for a day trip to Waco for some shopping. We (as in my mom, sister and hopefully soon to be sister in law) are all big Fixer Upper fans so our main goal was to stop by and see the Magnolia Silos. We had a great drive up there just chit chatting it away in the car 😊

As we were pulling into Waco a HUGE storm was rolling in. Why does it always rain just as you are about to get out of the car??!! We all got a little wet (thank you umbrellas) and our hair might not have been as cute as earlier that morning but we were ready for some shopping!

 The birthday girl!

This place was gorgeous! Even if you are not a fan of Fixer Upper, I highly recommend stopping in. The store was beautifully decorated and every time someone picked something up there was an employee right behind them refilling it. Speaking of employees they were the nicest group of people I've every encountered at a store. So cheerful, friendly and helpful. The outside grounds are even more beautiful then inside. Milly and I walked around the garden where she was introduced to fairy gardens.

She was so adorable playing with them and walking around and smelling all the flowers. I was so thankful the rain had stopped at this point! We bought a few things and came home and made our very own fairy garden.

She goes outside everyday to check on it 😊

After a few hours at the silos we headed over for some Mexican food at a local restaurant and then a little more shopping before we had to head home. Overall the day was so much fun! I enjoyed hanging out with the ladies in my family and of course grabbing some goodies for the house.

I absolutely LOVE this Hot Coffee sign I picked up. I think this and my super duper soft "magnolia" sweatshirt might be my favorite things I bought.

Till next time Waco...

spring break

Unfortunately our spring break was pretty uneventful. I had planned so many fun things to do with the kids but in the end we only did one. I was recovering from the flu which ended up taking me a full 7 days to fell good enough to even get dressed and then another 3 days to feel back to my old self. That flu is NO JOKE! Thankfully, Cameron had signed up Asher for a 3 day baseball camp with the Round Rock Express, our local Triple A baseball team.

Asher was so cute and had the best time!

The last day of camp they handed out awards to the kids. There were 4 awards and as the first 3 were handed out I looked over at my little baseball player and could tell he so desperately wanted to get one. The 4th and last award was given to the MVP of the camp. They described it as the kid who showed hard work, a great attitude, respect and determination. Then I will never forget these words they said "The MVP of camp is Asher Kirchoff because everyday he came out here and gave it his all and we know that he has what it takes to make it far in the game."

OMG I was SOOOOOO excited and proud and tears filled my eyes. He was so incredibly cute getting up to get his award. This kid just loves baseball. It's his passion and for him to rewarded for it was so special.

They gave him a bag full of goodies but the most exciting prize was a bat that was used in a Texas Rangers game by Joey Gallo. Joey Gallo is one of Cameron's favorite players so when Asher got the bat he knew how excited his dad would be!

His number 1 fan 😊

That had to have been the most exciting part of spring break πŸ˜‰

Other then that, the kids spent the night at my parents house one night, we bought some new plants and planted flowers around the house, worked in the garden and around the yard. The weather was so nice and warm.

I love that I can finally pick flowers from yard and bring them in the house. My roses are so gorgeous this year and because spring has come early in Texas they are in full bloom.
One thing I knew we were going to do no matter what was go and see Beauty and the Beast. We have been waiting for this movie since last summer!

Now I think I might be the only person on the entire planet but...

I didn't really like the movie. I was super disappointed in it πŸ˜• I really really really wanted to like it but found myself through out different points in the movie thinking why????!!!!
Oh well...sometimes you just shouldn't mess with the original.

Next year hopefully our spring break will be more exciting and sickness free!

lent

The season of Lent is upon us again.

As usual we started off our Lent with ashes at Mass.

I also participated in fasting on Ash Wednesday which I haven't done in a very long time. I always made excuses to why I couldn't and even going into this year those long excuses started swirling in my head again.

"I'm a mom, I can't fast."

"How will I take proper care of my kids if I'm starving!"

Well, I fasted and survived and my kids did as well.πŸ˜‰ And the thing is it wasn't all that bad 😊 I'm seeing more and more how the world we live in is trying to convince us that to be happy we have to comfortable. That is so far from the truth. A little sacrifice and making yourself uncomfortable can really go a long way.

I have always loved Lent. It's a new beginning, a time to reevaluate your life, to step back and acknowledge your sins and why you are committing them. As usual everyone in the family (except Milly) gives up something. This year I wanted to add something to the mix so not only are we giving up something, we are also making an effort to do something. So everyone picked one thing they are going to try and do. It's been pretty great and I see the Holy Spirit working in all of our hearts.Lent is suppose to bring us closer to Jesus. To see him on the cross and why he died for us. When my boys are struggling with what they gave up I remind them of this. It always seems to soften their hearts. I mean c'mom, Jesus died for us we can at least not eat candy for 40 days right??!! Technically in the church, you are not required to participate in the Lenten fasts until you are 14 but I remember as a child starting this very young. It's really amazing what kids can do or what they can be held accountable for if you just encourage them. And the best part is seeing them on Holy Saturday enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Before Lent I went on a HUGE "simplifying" journey of my life and home (blog post on that coming up). I cleaned out EVERYTHING! I had not planned to finish right before Lent started but I did and of course that seems so appropriate now. I simplified my life and home and now through Lent I will simplify my heart. I have kind of recently fallen in love with journalling. I wake up every morning (weekdays) at 5:30am and read the Bible and then journal. I was so happy and excited when one of my fav websites created this Lenten Journal

It's so beautiful and every morning I look forward to sitting alone reading the words and reflecting. It's helping to make my Lent more meaningful as I ponder daily readings and questions. I think you can still buy a digital copy and I did this last year and printed it myself. It worked just as well!

1st Sunday of Lent

My poor Asher man woke up sick Sunday so it was just the 3 of us for Mass. We found out yesterday the poor guy has the flu. Major bummer!

"As Lent is the time for greater love, listen to Jesus' thirst...'Repent and believe' Jesus tells us. What are we to repent? Our indifference, our hardness of heart. What are we to believe? Jesus thirsts even now, in your heart and in the poor -- He knows your weakness. He wants only your love, wants only the chance to love you."
